Galvanize Ohio THIS Weekend
HELLO everyone!!! How I've missed you during maternity leave. I have SO much to share.
But first, I have to tell you about an important event coming this weekend to Columbus, Ohio. It's called Galvanize and brings the energy from last year's United State of Women Summit - the one at the White House headlined by the Obamas, Oprah, and a host of other mind-blowing speakers - to local communities. And Columbus is next.
I've had the honor of serving on the host committee preparing for Galvanize Ohio, and I have to tell you, it is going to be incredible. It's all about gender equity, and over the weekend participants will be armed with the tools they need to keep on organizing and keep on fighting.
How? First, we're training each person at the summit based on her interests by providing the following tracks, each led by national experts:
Running for Office
Grassroots Organizing
Leadership
Entrepreneurship
Second, we're jam-packing the weekend with inspiring speakers. Speakers like JoAnn Davidson, who was the FIRST female Speaker of the Ohio State House. Tamaya Dennard, a fearless community activist and personal friend running for Cincinnati City Council. Nichole Dunn, President & CEO of Women's Fund Central Ohio, whose tireless efforts, along with the hard work of her team, has been instrumental in the success of Galvanize Ohio. Virginia Nunes Gutierrez, an international entrepreneur and Co-Founder/COO of AVANZA, among many other ventures. Aftab Pureval, Clerk of Courts for Hamilton County, who recently instituted a $16 minimum wage and paid family leave policies for all his employees, exemplifying how family-supportive policies are a win for everyone. Senator Charleta Tavares, Assistant Minority Leader of the Ohio Senate, who has an extensive legislative and barrier breaking legacy. Tina Tchen, the Former Chief of Staff to First Lady Michelle Obama and Executive Director of the Obama Administration White House Council on Women and Girls.
Third, we're hosting an engagement fair of local and national organizations so folks can start making a difference immediately after the summit.
CEOs, activists, innovators, politicians, academics, entrepreneurs, organizers, students, professionals, future leaders. Everyone coming together to discuss and tackle the very real issues facing women today, nationally and locally.
